Anglicare PNG – Lae Branch in general is a NGO and is into HIV/AIDS Program in the province. Lae branch started going into operation into 2010 and until then it has two components, Prevention and Care and Counselling (VCT) programs. It is through these two components that Anglicare Lae Branch is targeting and working closely with Most-At-Risk-Populations (MAROs) here in the Province.
PROGRAMS & SERVICES
Prevention Component has a team of 1 Prevention officer (Danny Bemuro) and his assistant Chris Tom, who is also the branch logistics officer. Under Care and Counselling, the branch has Alice Opa (nursing and counselling officer) and Elsie Tomili (also nursing and counselling officer).
Where Prevention Component is concerned, it normally executes programs and services via Outreach Activities out to Hot spots (guest houses/night clubs), Mainland Holdings Sites, Communities (mobilization/sensitization) and out to Youths at City Mission (11mile). Condoms are also distributed out to hot spots, business houses and communities etc. It also does referrals to Haus Claire (those identified during outreach/community mobilization) on STIs, HIV/AIDS, GBV and on Sexual violence and also provides Youth Sexual Reproductive Services to 11 mile (combination package with Care & Counselling)
On the other hand, Care & Counseling component executes VCT Activities (mostly with Prevention team where we do outreach/awareness acts to mobile VCT) and HCT & Prevention. It also provides HCT and counselling, GBV counselling (individual/couple etc.), HBC on identified clients at their communities/home and during hospital visit at Day Care (Angau Memorial Hospital) and do follow up on ART clients besides referrals.
Way forward for us now is to engage more partners and strengthen them (MOUs) and do strategic planning to collaboratively work with them in targeting the target population (MARPs).
